Scott, thanks for sharing your personal meeting and his response! That was genius. I recently got turned on to him when I read a book about comedy (can't remember which one) and the writer was saying they idolized Jonathan Winters. I didn't know who he was so I checked out his videos and he IS amazing at improv! That's a true talent. Thanks for sharing!!!

Scott, Thanks for posting. He was a true comic genius. Many moons ago when I was in advertising I did a TV commercial for Smokey Bear where I dressed Jonathan up as a tree and he talked about the dangers of fire. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard when he kept riffing on the animals, fire, hunters, and so on. Then a week or so later when we had to do a couple of VO pick-ups, he did about 40 minutes of improv - Lenny and Maude having an affair, smoking Marlboros on the john, an entire cowboy soap opera complete with the horses galloping, whips cracking and ended with a John Wayne type getting axle grease and tying up Maude to a wagon wheel and having his way with her. I had those tapes for a long time but then they disappeared in a move. We will all miss Mr. Winters.

Wow, you got to WORK with Jonathan Winters! How great is that. Oh, to have access to those tapes. But perhaps for the best. You have those memories. Thanks for sharing!

We watched The Russians are Coming the Russians are Coming just the other day and it's amazing how funny Jonathan Winters is, and how "Jonathan Winters" he manages to be, even in that tiny role. One of my favourite memories of Jonathan Winters was the thrill of watching him improvise with Robin Williams on Mork & Mindy. 87 years is a pretty good run but I still wish he could have gone on for ever. My heart goes out to his family.
