Scott and Ashleigh, thanks for this great interview! Ashleigh, you said, "There might be something to that, where women are more likely to internalize than men..." I have read similar things. If you dig into it, I have a feeling it's not a gender thing so much as a social power thing, where members of socially dominant groups / or the contextually socially powerful are more likely to act out while the marginalized / disempowered are more likely to internalize violence and oppression. (I don't have a citation at hand and I'm not sure if I made this up or if it's something I read! If I come across a citation I'll add it in the comments.) It's definitely an interesting and underexplored idea in storytelling and I applaud you for grabbing onto it. Somacell sounds like a fascinating movie and I look forward to seeing it in theatres! Terrific interview Scott and Ashleigh. As a woman who writes mainly sci fi and thrillers, it gives me such tremendous encouragement to see that women are really starting to make their mark on the genres. I think three-dimensional female characters are beginning to be more prevalent. Women make up 50% of the population. I know that I'm pretty sick of seeing them on the screen purely as eye candy. The recent trend toward complex female characters in films is very welcome indeed. And Scott, I simply don't know where you find the time to do everything you do. Are you privy to some futuristic time-distorting machine that allows you to bend hours to your will? However you do it, I'm incredibly grateful for the time you invest on this site. I can't tell you how much I've learned over the past couple of years on here.
