Scott, Can the logline be for a project you have already started to work on? Thanks, C
Scott at 2013-04-25 22:08:21:
Yes. It can even be a completed script, but the writer would have to be willing to start from scratch and apply the character-based approach I used in The Quest.

Congratulations to the mystery writer! That's fantastic news - and thank you for being so generous with your time and energy yet again. Okay people, let's deliver some killer loglines! :)

Congratulations Scott on the signing of one of your Quest students by a major agency! Amazing success for the Quest program to fulfill its promise beyond expectations!!! And all this after the very first round. It must be the greatest feeling of reward for you as a teacher. All the best to you and Please, keep on mentoring :-)

That is awesome to hear about a former Quest student! How exciting! Can't wait to hear about the script. Will you be basing your decision on a single logline (out of the 3 allowed submission)? Or as a collective? Just wondering if it actually increases our chances to submit more, or to go with the one or two we have put our blood, sweat, and tears into. (Literally, in my case. I loathe the logline.)

Despina, I will be discussing my particular take on loglines once we hit May 6, a two-week run-up to the logline submission period. But suffice to say I am looking for a strong story CONCEIT, the very essence of the idea. For example K-9, it was about a cop and a police dog. Boom. Just that tells you the story. FYI I selected one writer for The Quest Initiative last year based on their story's title: 6 words. A stellar high concept distilled down to its essence. So yes, a logline is important and how your craft a logline is important. But depending upon the story, the actual conceit -- the essence of the idea -- can be the single determining factor in whether I [or any Hollywood type] have an interest in a story. Much more over the coming weeks.

Perhaps I'm overthinking, but nevertheless: With the email, would you like the title of the project? Or is it just the logline?
Scott at 2013-05-08 12:41:05:
Title is great if you have a good one.
