I guess this neatly follows on from what was being discussed yesterday as to whether Knowledge and Understanding is more important than raw Talent. And as was said, raw talent is all well and good, but you need that understanding of how movies "work" to put that talent to good use. Having watched so many movies, I think I know how they work, but when I look at those lists, I realise I do have a little bit of remedial work to do....not that that is bad homework of course....perhaps I will start a list of ones I need to watch and keep a record of my progress. My projector has clocked 900 hours over the last 2 years, so around 450 2 hour films...thinking about it like that (and although it obviously doesn't include the cinema or films watched on the telly) it does feels like I need to watch more! ;-) As for reading scripts, I am trying to keep up with the recommended 1 a week, which isn't too onerous either....and it all goes towards the knowledge I am amassing to develop my talent!

Good opportunity for me to promote -- again -- this: 1, 2, 7, 14. A simple formula to be a more productive and better screenwriter.

You can't lay your Greek language education on us often enough for my taste, Scott! One of the things I love about studying screenwriting is that the more I learn, the more deeply I understand and appreciate the movies I watch. It's like Dorothy landing in Oz and the whole world being in Technicolor: there's so much more I can see now with informed eyes.

Okay... So... (not that I'm not busy at work or anything, but) I have just printed off and run through the top 250 movies on IMDB... My score: 132 seen, 118 not seen (or partially seen). Here's the breakdown per 50 movies (Who cares? I here you cry!): 36 Movies 1 - 50 26 Movies 51 - 100 30 Movies 101 - 150 22 Movies 151 - 200 18 Movies 201 - 250 I guess the challenge should now be... Go watch the 118 I haven't seen... Anyone else up for it? Scott - What's your score?
