Can't believe it's nearly a year since you launched the last Quest. I used to struggle with ideas and loglines. But with last year's Quest and all your help and advice, I find that ideas come much more easily now. I'll definitely be submitting a logline or two this year. Will you place a cap on the number of loglines someone can submit this year Scott?

I hope you do set a limit this year, Scott, just to keep the crazy down on your end. Plus, on our end, it may help motivate writers to approach this in a business-like way and focus on presenting their best ideas polished up into compelling loglines.

There are lots of theories about loglines. My basic thing is communicate: Protagonist, Hook, Conflict, Genre. I get into this fully in a class I'll be teaching beginning March 25 called Story Summaries which you can learn more about here.

I am DEFINITELY going to put a cap on the number of loglines each writer may submit. Last year WAY too many subpar loglines, people just throwing stuff against the wall, seeing if it would stick. As Shaula suggests, I believe having a limit will compel each entrant to do some hard thinking about their story ideas and work to get them into the most compelling, entertaining shape. I think 3 is a good number as a cap.
