I still remember the TV ads that featured Swayze sky-diving backward out of the airplane. It was like, uh, that's actually Patrick Swayze, not a stunt person. Turns out, he was an accomplished sky diver, but still... totally bad ass!

Was that because of Blue Steel? Or just the fact that she was the only female action director out there. Before Hurt Locker, she had a pretty solid resume as a genre/action writer/director, with probably 4 genuine cult movies on that list. Near Dark is one of those true guilty pleasures for me. Been a fan of hers ever since that movie came out. Kevin Feige needs to give her a shot at directing one of the Marvel tentpoles.

Pliny, she did "Blue Steel" in 88 or 89 if memory serves. That did pretty well. She made her splash with "Near Dark." I hope she and Megan Ellison [Anapurna] keep making interesting movies.

Scott, Blue Steel actually did pretty poorly at the box office (just over $8 million in 1990 dollars), but could have done much better in home video. I just remember it being a controversial movie.
