Pulp Fiction (1994), written by Quentin Tarantino, story by Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary http://movieclips.com/mxAUY-pulp-fiction-movie-the-gold-watch/ CAPT. KOONS steps inside the room toward the little boy and bends down on one knee to bring him even with the boy's eyeline. When Koons speaks, he speaks with a slight Texas accent. CAPT. KOONS: Hello, little man. Boy I sure heard a bunch about you. See, I was a good friend of your Daddy's. We were in that Hanoi pit of hell over five years together. Hopefully, you'll never have to experience this yourself, but when two men are in a situation like me and your Daddy were, for as long as we were, you take on certain responsibilities of the other. If it had been me who had not made it, Major Coolidge would be talkin' right now to my son Jim. But the way it worked out is I'm talkin' to you, Butch. I got somethin' for ya. The Captain pulls a gold wrist watch out of his pocket. CAPT. KOONS: This watch I got here was first purchased by your great-granddaddy. It was bought during the First World War in a little general store in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was bought by private Doughboy Ernie Coolidge the day he set sail for Paris. It was your great-granddaddy's war watch, made by the first company to ever make wrist watches. You see, up until then, people just carried pocket watches. Your great-granddaddy wore that watch every day he was in the war. Then when he had done his duty, he went home to your great-grandmother, took the watch off his wrist and put it in an ol' coffee can. And in that can it stayed 'til your grandfather Dane Coolidge was called upon by his country to go overseas and fight the Germans once again. This time they called it World War Two. Your great-granddaddy gave it to your granddad for good luck. Unfortunately, Dane's luck wasn't as good as his old man's. Your granddad was a Marine and he was killed with all the other Marines at the battle of Wake Island. Your granddad was facing death and he knew it. None of those boys had any illusions about ever leavin' that island alive. So three days before the Japanese took the island, your 22-year old grandfather asked a gunner on an Air Force transport named Winocki, a man he had never met before in his life, to deliver to his infant son, who he had never seen in the flesh, his gold watch. Three days later, your grandfather was dead. But Winocki kept his word. After the war was over, he paid a visit to your grandmother, delivering to your infant father, his Dad's gold watch. This watch. This watch was on your Daddy's wrist when he was shot down over Hanoi. He was captured and put in a Vietnamese prison camp. Now he knew if the gooks ever saw the watch it'd be confiscated. The way your Daddy looked at it, that watch was your birthright. And he'd be damned if and slopeheads were gonna put their greasy yella hands on his boy's birthright. So he hid it in the one place he knew he could hide somethin'. His ass. Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the watch. I hid with uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you. Capt. Koons hands the watch to Butch. A little hand comes into FRAME to accept it.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), Screenplay by Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens & Peter Jackson, based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRGB1kmTyFc Galadriel: My gift for you, Legolas, is a bow of the Galadhrim, worthy of the skill of our woodland kin. These are the daggers of the Noldorin. They have already seen service in war. Do not fear, young Peregrin Took. You will find your courage. And for you, Samwise Gamgee: Elven rope, made of hithlain. Sam: Thank you, my lady. Have you run out of those nice, shiny daggers? Galadriel: And what gift would a Dwarf ask of the Elves? Gimli: Nothing. Except to look upon the Lady of the Galadhrim one last time, for she is more fair than all the jewels beneath the earth. Actually, there was one thing — ah, agh, that's quite impossible. Stupid to ask. Galadriel: I have nothing greater to give, than the gift you already bear. For her love, I fear the grace of Arwen Evenstar will diminish. Aragorn: I would have her leave these shores, and be with her people. I would have her take the ship to Valinor. Galadriel: That choice is yet before her. You have your own choice to make, Aragorn… to rise above the height of all your fathers since the days of Elendil, or to fall into darkness with all that is left of your kin. Farewell. There is much you have yet to do. We shall not meet again, Elessar. Farewell, Frodo Baggins. I give you the light of Eärendil, our most beloved star. May it be a light for you, in dark places, when all other lights go out. Gimli: I have taken my worst wound at this parting, having looked my last upon that which is fairest. Henceforth I will call nothing fair unless it be her gift to me. Legolas: What was it? Gimli: I asked her for one hair from her golden head. She gave me three.

From "Star Wars: A New Hope," Obi Wan gives Luke his father's (Darth Vader's) light saber... (it's the gift that has kept on giving... five sequels... billions in merchandise... first for Lucas Films and now to Disney, which is swallowing up entertainment properties like some kinda, dare I say it, Death Star)... A powerful scene that begins Luke's transformation from a disgruntled farm boy to the leader of the Rebels... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irGnnyGyHwU Obi-Wan: I have something here for you. Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow it. He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade like your father did. Luke: What is it? Obi-Wan: Your father's light saber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age. For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... before the Empire.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994) written by: Frank Darabont Red emerges into fading daylight. Andy's waiting for him. RED: Same old, same old. Thirty years. Jesus. When you say it like that... ANDY: You wonder where it went. I wonder where ten years went. Red nods, solemn. They settle in on the bleachers. Andy pulls a small box from his sweater, hands it to Red. ANDY: Anniversary gift. Open it. Red does. Inside the box, on a thin layer of cotton, is a shiny new harmonica, bright aluminum and circus-red. ANDY: Had to go through one of your competitors. Hope you don't mind. Wanted it to be a surprise. RED: It's very pretty, Andy. Thank you. ANDY: You gonna play something? Red considers it, shakes his head. Softly: RED: Not today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hB3S9bIaco
