Scott, it looks like you have an ambitious and exciting year lined up! I'm very interested to see what you get up to with ebooks. And yes, it's high time. I have some experience with ebooks myself... give me a shout when you get into that and I'd be happy if I can help. Writer's Retreat - do you have a location in mind? If not, you might want to check out the Banff Centre. They have fantastic facility (with remarkable food), an amazing location, and a world-class reputation (which may be helpful, depending on how wide you want to cast your net for participants). Their rates are also really reasonable. I would love to see you offer the Quest again--as I'm sure everyone would--but how on earth do you make the time? You have sounded incredibly busy this past year... Please pace yourself and temper your generosity with taking care of yourself and your family! As for me, I'm happy to share one of my goals for 2013: I would like to rewrite my GOYOQ script to the point that I can enter it in the Nicholl. (And I'm hoping I won't be the only GOYOQ script entering, too.)

Scott and Shaula: excellent goals. Okay, here we go... Finish two high-concept, good-sample-of-my-work scripts and get them circulating around Hollywood: via my UK agent, via the Black List site, however I can.

Actually Scott, I have connections at the Banff Centre. If that is a possibility... I would be more than happy to use my connections to help/assist in set(ting) something up for you. It's the same town as Banff World Media Festival (aka Banff World Television Festival). They do have an amazing facility and Banff is insanely beautiful. If you do it in the summer (June-Aug) it will be warm (ie no snow) Anyways, its... a great idea Shaula Ladies, Congrats on going public. Fortune favours the brave. This is great and I am following along. I need a little more time to decide what and how I want to do/achieve my goals. I always go "public" but this year, I might make an even more/ actual public declaration. ;-)

I'm all for setting goals in timeframes, it really helped me personally in 2012. And as it turns out, fear of public humiliation spurs me on. So what better place to make my writing goals public than GITS? Finish first draft GOYOQ Dec 2012. Submit pilot Jan 2013. Submit 2nd pilot Feb 2013. Finish new feature script idea, first draft, Mar 2013. March 2013 finish post of short film. March set new goals. For all you writers out there, I had a rejection today, it's what strengthens our resolve (or maybe it's just me who gets them???). Admittedly it was a piece of writing I wasn't happy with but God if you're listening, please some day an acceptance? Ta.

Hello everyone, terrified to do this since I am terrible with deadlines and tend to be overambitious, but here goes since I really want to be better next year and prove to myself I can do this: 1) Finalize a current script I am working on by end of (Jan 2013) 2) Finish another by the summer (May 2013). 3) And a third script in the fall or preferably before end of year (September 2013). 4) Generate new loglines atleast once a week. 5) Consider not peeing in my pants and actually show my work and start marketing however I can. (October 2013 onwards)

6) and sorry would like to add: set REALISTIC goals and stick to them so I don't feel stupid for not accomplishing them afterwards. Quiet act: no you are not the only one. Hang in there, and good luck on the next attempts, rooting for you.

Erica, those are some fantastic goals! Good luck with all of it. If you'd care to share your thoughts on the scripts you're reading, there's a Script Analysis area at the forums. I'm finding that hearing about the scripts other people are reading is helping me keep my momentum up with my own script reading, and I enjoy their insights into the writing. I'm arriving a little late, but I've decided not to let that be an excuse for failing to participate. I feel a little intimidated by all the people who plan to write multiple scripts in the coming year, but Scott did say to be realistic. My Goal for 2013: Finish one screenplay and submit it to a screenwriting contest before the year ends.

My Writing Goals for 2013: -Follow the 1,2,7,14 method to finish at least two screenplays. -Learn how to analyze and breakdown screenplays to assist with my writing. -Submit my screenplays to the Black List website, after soliciting feedback from the few connections I have in Hollywood. -Take that feedback and become awesome at rewriting scripts. -Apply for graduate school for a Screenwriting MFA at the end of the year (pending outcomes of the above goals). I plan to post this on Facebook and set up a goal on the site Stickk, in which I can actually put money on the line (and if I fail it goes to a charity that I do not want to support). This will at least give me some consequences if I do not follow through with my goals.

I have been secretly reading along for the past month and am so thrilled that this site is up! It really works as a mirror for me and makes me realize that I need to be bolder and this time just step outside and accomplish my dream. So, because all you guys inspire me to be bolder here are my goals for 2013. 1) Finish my first spec. script by the end of January 2013. 2) Finish my poetry collection by the end of May 2013 3) Move to LA to taste firsthand what the atmosphere is in the screenwriting city (by the end of April 2013) 4) Read one script a day 5) Partake in GOYOW 2013

Scott, first thank you for this fantastic series. That's exactly what I needed. I let myself get sidetracked by the rewrite on a script that a producer wanted to option if I came up with a satisfactory rewrite. The good news is that I did and the script was optioned but as you know I let you down on the script I was working on in your rewrite class. So my first goal for 2013 is to finish that rewrite by mid February. My next goal is to work weekly on new concepts. My third goal is to write a new comedy this year and have it finished by September 30th so I can start entering it in contects then. Thanks again for you dedication to helping screenwiters.

My goal is simply to write more screenplays. I am starting to get a vague feeling of what to do but the more I write the more I learn. I don't feel like I understand the fiction-writing or script-writing process very well yet.
