The dialogue itself is perhaps not that noteworthy but it's a very important scene in this film. Note the “For the first time in eighteen years...” aside from the writers to indicate the importance of this moment. It invites the reader to exhale after this intense sequence and let this momentous event sink in. Children of Men (2006) Screenplay by Alfonso Cuarón & Timothy J. Sexton and David Arata and Mark Fergus & Hawk Ostby, based on the novel by P.D. James. http://movieclips.com/XWMS-children-of-men-movie-its-a-girl/ Kee writhes in pain, SCREAMS. THEO: Now just lie there and let your body take over. Get in touch with your body like Miriam said, that thing about tension. KEE: I can't! THEO: You can! Just breathe, breathe like Miriam taught you... relax, and when you feel like it, push! KEE: I can't fucking do it! THEO: Yes you can! Breathe and push! KEE: Fuck you! It hurts! THEO: Fuck you! Push! (then) All the women who've ever given birth are with you! Kee pushes -- her breath visible in the cold room. KEE: Fuck all! THEO: That's it. Just like that. Keep breathing. Breathe in... breathe out... Kee clutches Theo's hands harder -- although we can see her breath, she is covered in sweat. THEO (bending lower): Push! It's working goddamnit. I think it's actually working! Kee pushes with all her might. Theo witnesses this, utterly amazed... THEO: I can see its head! Kee screams -- excruciating pain -- fear. She pushes -- the head stretching open the vagina, coming through... THEO: Push! Theo holding onto Kee, blown away. THEO: You're doing great. Kee looks up at Theo, her face wet with sweat and tears, a little reassured. Theo watches: the baby's blue head emerges completely... THEO: Keep doing what you're doing... Kee pushing -- the rest of the baby's body flowing out in a stream of blood. Theo supporting the emerging infant... THEO: Here he comes, here he comes. You're nearly there... Kee screaming as she taps a reservoir of female strength, giving her body over to the new life coming through it, to life itself, the miracle KEE: FUCKING GOD!!! -- the baby bursts forth, a bloody explosion of life... Theo pulling it free, still hooked by the umbilical cord, the placenta spilling out in a bloody finale - There is a moment, a pause. For the first time in eighteen years, four months, two days, sixteen hours and eight minutes, a human child has been born. Theo holds the newborn baby, all blue, covered in white specks, steam rising from the tiny body in the cold room. KEE: How is he? But Theo doesn't answer... he's stunned, holding the baby... then... THEO: Actually, it's a girl.

Here's a classic fairy tale opening, jam-packed with backstory, exposition and of course a birth. Penelope (2006) Written by Leslie Caveny http://movieclips.com/rewY-penelope-movie-penelopes-birth/ Penelope (V.O.): My parents were born into the good life. Old money, blue-blooded society sweethearts. Reporter: Are you hoping for a boy or girl? Jessica Wilhern: We'll be happy with whatever we have! Penelope (V.O.): Having played host to kings and queens and other powers that be, they were used to gracing the pages of society columns. So they welcomed the attention on what they supposed would be the happiest day of their lives. But local legend had it that a curse was put on the Wilhern family, when my great-great-great-grandfather Ralph had a fling with Clara, a lowly servant girl. When he told his family of his plans to marry Clara, he realized how silly he'd been. Clara was, after all, just a servant girl. So Ralph married someone more suitable, and Clara... fell off a cliff. That night, Clara's mother, the town witch, came to the Wilhern house seeking revenge. She wanted these blue bloods to feel the pain of rejection her daughter felt, and commanded that the next Wilhern daughter be born with the face of a pig. The Witch: And only when one of your own kind claims this daughter as their own, till death do they part, will the curse be broken! Penelope (V.O.): With the threat of the curse hanging over their heads, the next five Wilhern brides lived in terror of being the first to give birth to a daughter. But as luck would have it, they gave birth to all sons, who had all sons, who had all sons, who had all sons. Finally, born to Ella and Leonard Wilhern, a beautiful baby girl. But what they didn't know then was that Ella hadn't actually given birth to a Wilhern. She had given birth to... a Jones. Which means that the first-born Wilhern girl... was me.

Splice (2009) Screenplay by Vincenzo Natali & Antoinette Terry Bryant and Doug Taylor, story by Vincenzo Natali & Antoinette Terry Bryant. http://movieclips.com/kjPc-splice-movie-not-due-for-months/ INT. BIRTHING ROOM, LAB -- NIGHT The door opens and Clive and Elsa rush in. At the end of the room, the artificial womb is belching and groaning, fluid freely gushing from its chrome hull. Clive glances at the monitor: "PREPARING BREACH OF FETAL MEMBRANE." ELSA: Something's wrong. FLOOSH! The machine spews more fluid. Louder GROANING. CLIVE: It's trying to come out. ELSA: It's too soon. Way too soon! Clive and Elsa quickly throw on medical gowns, masks, and gloves. The machine contracts again, a wave of fluid flushes out. Nothing else. Elsa checks the ultrasound. ELSA: It's... grown. It's too big. The machine emits a METALLIC CREAK. CLIVE: The pressure will kill it! Elsa hits a button on the side of the machine. The PULSING GROAN winds down to a soft hum. The flushing of fluid subsides and the machine's orifice dilates. Elsa wedges her arm inside. Clive watches, apprehensive. ELSA: Come on... come on! (up to her elbow) Slippery. I can't... Elsa finally seems to get a grip when her arm is abruptly yanked deeper into the machine. Her chin bangs against the hull. She lets out a startled yelp. CLIVE: What is it?! Tears well in Elsa's terrified eyes. ELSA: It's... Biting! CLIVE: Hold on! Clive snaps into action. He fumbles with a series of hand-bolts along the hull. With the last clasp unlocked, he's able to open the entire chassis, releasing a torrent of viscous fluid and revealing... A DARK BLOB OF FLESH with a long serpentine tail wrapped around Elsa's wrist.

I love this scene so much had me rolling laughing out loud. Balance of satire with all too much reality is just perfect.
