My sense is that there is far too much attention paid to screenplay structure [and by "structure," most people mean plot] and not nearly enough focus on characters. If I may be so bold, it would seem to me from that statement that the real problem here is that people equate 'structure' with 'plot'. To me, structure is the method by which I can best arrange the plot around the character's inner journey. If I film is well plotted, by not well characterized, I would not call it well structured.
