Excellent job Scott on Theology of Screenwriting. It would make an excellent book. When it comes to studying great storytelling - what better guide than the themes found in the biggest best seller - the Bible? I would definitely love to see what other theological concepts you can come up with.

Thank you. And not to be picky, but it's "A Serious Man," not "A Simple Man."

I'm enjoying these theological posts! Another element to explore: the dichotomy of man. (Of course, touching on these themes implies a dual nature.)

Thank you so much for this series Scott! I, too, have a degree in theology and it's been difficult for me to reconcile being a theologian and being a screenwriter as it is sometimes hard to see the connection. You've helped me realize how much I have to offer my stories with what I already know. I really appreciate it!!

Bryan, that was a complete brain fart as I must have been thinking at the same time of the movie "A Simple Plan." I've seen the Coen bros movie, but as I say, brain fart. Fixed now. Thanks again.

Finally got to read this series; thanks for putting it out there. Other themes that come to mind -- sin implies judgment (of the self? of others? by what authority? done fairly?). Judgment brings to mind forgiveness (of the self? of others?). Sin also brings to mind purity (whose definition? is it valuable?) or the reaching for it... or the rejection of it or of someone else's definition. Today's theme of doubt begs for revelation (effective? imagined? faked?).
Bryan Colley at 2012-09-21 23:11:38:
But revelation removes doubt. I think the point of the movie is that life doesn't provide revelation.

It was a pondering of other topics of discussion re: theology; I wasn't thinking of any particular film at the time.
