I was going to say "not enough"! But now I think about it, I spend a lot of time just chewing over ideas in the early stages - thinking about them when I'm out for a walk, reading newspaper articles related to them, etc. So I suppose that's prep too. I just don't do enough formal prep...

I'm with you, Debbie. I spend a lot of time thinking and planning, brainstorming and troubleshooting before I write. But I don't have a formal prep process, and my writing would clearly benefit from one.
