I just had a thought of soft robots being used as replacement body parts for people losing limbs and such like. And then what? Becoming sentient with advanced AI algorithms....something like a techno version of The Hand? Or being controlled remotely by a mad scientist - getting people to do his bidding - like the penguin in The Wrong Trousers....Wallace and Gromit animation.....not sure whether they made it to the other side of the atlantic.....but the people being controlled don't know they are...

Ooh, that's interesting. I do remember The Hand... with Michael Caine, right? Talk about Disunity! What if some malevolent force could control your body or body parts? Like demon possession only some scientific / espionage /terrorist / whatever power...

It was indeed Michael Caine! Not the greatest film if I remember correctly, but one of those sneaky vhs recordings that I treated myself to back in the 80s to watch when my parents weren't looking! I'm also now thinking of some sort of modding culture where people can buy "soft-robotic" modifications....the tattooing/piercings of the 21st century....so now we are looking at someone getting addicted and going too far, the machines taking over.... a sort of take on Tetsuo: The Iron Man.

I really like this idea Mark in a red shoes gone wrong kind of way. I'm thinking people who are modified unwittingly become assassins. The body parts learn to disguise themselves as part of the host, so that people are held accountable for the body part's actions. The body parts then dissociate from the bodies when they're imprisoned and camouflage to escape. The people left behind are deemed insane as they tried to gnaw off their own hands ( which gruesomely disappear). A historical or time travelling version; Lee Harvey Oswald didn't do it, his camouflaged robot arms were the culprits. And his robot legs brought his unwilling body to the grassy knoll. Conspiracy anyone? A trapped prisoner version if you like, a hostage type scenario where the hostage is forced to do the bidding of the robots in control.

eeeep! That first video was creepers! The second vid, however, was really cool. I have 2 ideas for this: 1) definitely military and war-based and, rather than us invading them or using these 'bots for intelligence, it's them invading us - as in, another country has spread these little minions all over the world and strategically placed them into ocean currents. They've been here for a while and due to their shape, color, and placement, we are none the wiser. Lakes, streams, oceans... you name it, they're everywhere. An environmentalist out collecting water samples in the Pacific comes across one and, baffled, goes to dissect and discovers it's not organic. This turns into a behind-the-scenes security breach and mayhem ignites in the Pentagon as they race to find out what these are, where they're coming from, and how many more are out there. Shit's about to hit the fan. Meanwhile, in Big City, USA, no one has a clue any of this is going on. Now that the audience is privy to their possible forms and textures, they appear out of the woodwork on screen and they're literally everywhere. Who's behind this and why??? Cut to close-up of some military power locking and loading missiles and rockets. It's about to rain hellfire on the US. Ffffuuuuucccckkkkk! Then there'd be a back 'n forth with us detecting them and rushing to shoot them down and warn our people to get ready... And what we don't know is that these 'bots have actually been made into submersibles that have been travelling the currents carrying troops that will soon hit our shores. Damn that's a scary thought. Red Dawn (the original, I haven't seen the remake) was a huge influence on me growing up. I'm a sucker for war themes and high stakes thrillers. The flip side of that same thought could be it's some kid's lost, tricked out rubber 'bot that his father had brought home for testing them at a top-secret science fair. He loses it in a stream while fishing and it ends up in some foreign net or something and they think it's us sending our latest spy technology and they start to plan an attack on us- and very nearly do... all because of some kid's creepy robotic rubber thingymajiggy. 2) A man who lost his arms in a terrible accident has the chance to undergo a test procedure of replacing his missing arms/hands with soft robotic ones. There will also be an implanted control device in a certain cortex of his brain that will allow these new arms to move fluidly and seamlessly as if they were his own two arms. They will match his skin tone perfectly, so they will be a very close representation of his former self... but he will be stronger because of them. He had been depressed since losing his arms in the accident, so he accepts this procedure whole-heartedly. Once the surgery is complete and he undergoes PT and recovery, he's ready to set his course for his 2nd chance at life and charges back into the real world. One thing that happened to him as a result of the accident was memory loss so he has no recollection of the accident itself or the circumstances surrounding it. He starts to notice his arms tense up when he's around certain people (2 guys in particular) and he doesn't know why - they're his friends. One day they're buddying around at a bar showing off his new arms to some gals when he suddenly grips one of his friends by the throat after he'd said some off the cuff remark that would otherwise go unnoticed, but it triggers the man's arms and he nearly chokes his friend out. He didn't know what was going on and it was like he couldn't control it. They all brush it off and chalk it up to the accident, but the 2 guys get are nervous around their friend. This ends up happening more than once or twice around these guys so the man seeks help from a psychologist who regresses him and digs back into the time before his accident. Turns out, these 2 friends were the ones responsible for the accident and the loss of his arms and the memory of the accident comes rushing back. His subconscious had been controlling his arms around these two guys. He wants to confront them and make them own up to the accident, but when he goes to talk to them it turns into a fight and he ends up killing them (or sticking them in the ICU) with his bare hands. Now it's turned into a court case on whether he's responsible or not because his arms were linked to his subconscious and if he'd had repressed memories did he have control of his actions (his arms) or not... hhhmmmm????

i think that last one is influenced by the thousands upon thousands of hours spent watching Law & Order. There's no fingerprints, because his hands are robotic. There's no DNA. The damage and injuries are so bad, they're looking for more than one person because clearly one man can't have done this by himself or been that strong. hhmmm...

That's an amazing idea. Now he's on the run. And he realizes that his two friends are acting on behalf of a larger government conspiracy. One that's out to get him. Because of things he did before or during the accident. And oh, his ex-girlfriend is a secret agent and on his case. She remembers their love; he does not. What will she choose - love or loyalty to her nation? I have a somewhat horror comedy idea. Man creates sentient robot. In classic nerd-form, man is having trouble with his romantic life. Sentient robot wants to help him. But screws things up. Horrifically.

I like that last one.
