“The first draft reveals the art, revision reveals the artist” - Michael Lee and my favorite quote: “The first draft of anything is shit” - Ernest Hemingway. Writers know how tough it is to write the first draft.

Lane, so true. That's why the ONLY rule I have about writing is about first drafts: "Get the damn thing done!" Far too many stories end up crashed upon the rocks of despair and futility before reaching the end. No matter how crappy a writer feels their first draft is going, just get it done. You can ALWAYS rewrite it and you learn so much about your story, characters, themes, etc during the process.

It's always painful to write the first draft, but it feels so damn good once you finish it. Ironically, this is exactly what we're going through right now. Believe it or not, we have shoot a movie with only a half of the story finished! I actually do not know how it will end. But we'll get there.

Love this, it's so forgiving. And the Hemingway quote is the most inspiring expletive comment I have ever encountered.
