I have never been here before, only just arrived through a link in a RT. I like the story - sometimes children say fascinating and inspiring things. So, Happy 12th Birthday :), Luke (in Germany you would have to wait for another four years before you were legally allowed to watch 'The Dark Knight'), and I hope you will remain this inspiring. A few days ago I followed @BittrScrptReadr when he tweeted his 13-year-old daughter's comments on watching 'Star Wars' for the first time - I quite liked it although I have watched only one episode myself - I thought it might be interesting to you, too.

Happy Birthday Luke! 12! Awesome. And 75% of the way to driving! Woohoo! Here's hoping a Tesla S is in your future, along with jet packs, rocket boots, and hover boards for all of us. Two of my family had birthdays in recent days and I can say with absolute certainty that people born around now are the most awesome people in the world. Add in your ability to get to the heart of the matter and there is no doubt your dreams will become reality. You've got movies well covered, but what I can recommend, some cartoon fun, Bone by Jeff Smith (writer and artist), it's epic and lovely, you might well enjoy it. Have a wonderful year!

Happy Blessed Birthday Luke! So we have you to thank for kick-starting the concept behind all of this cool stuff on GITS? You even knew what it takes to make an awesome story at age 3. Well, thanks to you and your Dad we have the perfect inspiration to keep "finding the animals." Only 12, and you already have "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Little Miss Sunshine" on your top 10 list. Until your dad put up his post today, I didn't realize you did homeschooling. I hope I didn't offend you with the reference to Ancient Rome, which I imagine you studied on your own ages ago. I'm completely jealous of you: I would have loved to home school, but I grew up in a time and place where "that wasn't done". But if you like The Seven Samurai and Spirited Away, let me turn you on to a secret: if you think they are good with dubbing and subtitles, they are even better in the original. (The same thing goes for the incredible world of French film!) French is a little easier to tackle out of the gate for native English speakers, so you might want to start there, and once you've got some principles of language study worked out, move on to Japanese (and from there to as many other languages as tickle your fancy). The structure and history and writing systems of Japanese are so far removed from English that it presents a complex and fascinating puzzle that can entertain and reward you for a very long time. And learning more languages makes the world of film (and literature! and music!) so much bigger and more vibrant. On the topic of literature, if you haven't read it yet, do yourself a favour and pick up a copy of Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. He wrote it specifically for kids like you. I only discovered it as an adult and I really wish I had read it around 12. I have a feeling you might enjoy it. And Happy Birthday again.
