I wish I would have read more scripts written by professionals earlier on. It took me a while to realize the early scripts I wrote weren't very good. It wouldn't be until I'd finished a new script that I'd look back at the previous script and say "Wait a second....WHY ISN'T THIS IN A TRASH CAN UNDERNEATH A LANDFILL SOMEWHERE?". And the same thing with the next one, and the next one. Honestly, it wasn't until script 14 or 15 I thought I had a handle on it. Maybe if I'd read more scripts that would have changed? I also outline a lot more, but still try to leave wiggle room for better ideas that always seem to crop up.
