Ironic, sure. But I'd go with tragic. I liked the TDKR, but God knows that movie was in trouble from its inception (I hate myself sometimes). There are hard acts to follow, and then there's this. There was simply no topping it, and it's a big, sad sack of what might have been for the character(s), Nolan's Batman universe and, far more pertinently, for Heath Ledger.
