This is an academic list, not a collection of "how to write comedy" books, but I hope you may find some of them helpful. I haven't read these myself (yet!) but I'll certainly be tracking many of them down. Accursi, Daniel. "Les `Gueules' du Cinéna Comique." Steve Allen has written extensively on the craft of comedy. Sometimes he is insightful, at other times it seems like he is just typing to fill the pages. I would suggest, "How To Be Funny." Drew Carey also wrote a worthwhile book, " Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined."
