For me, this quote also ties into the writing adage "write what you know". All of us are in a unique position to tell our own stories--not necessarily stories about ourselves, but the stories that only we have to tell, rooted not just in our individual life experiences, but in our families and communities and networks of relationships, the stories of the people we observe and listen to, and the stories we care about. Maybe you're never going to write the next "Hangover" or "Bridesmaids"--but maybe you can write your own "Little Miss Sunshine" or "Juno" or "Napoleon Dynamite". Those are three films that couldn't have been written by "just anybody," and that's part of what made them a success. In other words, write from the privilege of who you are.
