Wow, £1 million per broadcast hour? (I presume pounds sterling, he didn't specify) Having seen Hit And Miss on DVD last week, I'm genuinely surprised. It looks lovely, but it doesn't look that expensive. For comparison, my forthcoming kid's show is under half a mil per broadcast hour, and we have CGI... Was very interested to hear it was originally two separate ideas, though, because I think the join still shows in the early episodes. The two halves of Mia's life take a long time to start having an effect on each other. However, it's a good lesson in combining unrelated concepts to create something unique...

It's a great way to troubleshoot premises ("this needs more story"), and to put idea files to work (what if this romantic comedy...was about spies?). I haven't seen Hit & Miss yet (looking forward to it) but I really admire Abbott's work. State of Play was excellent, and I loved Touching Evil--both the original and the US incarnation.
