Inception.

Training Day, The Matrix, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Wrestler, or Unbreakable I think all of these are interesting stories. Not sure if all of those screenplays are available though.

Nice one Sonic. With the final chapter of Nolan's batsaga on the verge of splashdown, it couldn't hurt to analyze what makes the maestro tick. Arguably, Nolan is doing what we'd all love to do...create artful and intellectually compelling popcorn movies on an enormous scale. One vote for Inception here.

Is there interest in synching the script analysis series with the new genre essentials series? It might be good to do a drama that week, while we look at the drama genre, or to look at an action or comedy script, which will have been covered the two previous weeks in the genre essentials series.

What about "Knocked Up"? Great dialogue. Strong visually (opens with shots of Ben's irresponsible life, smoking pot, boxing with his gloves on fire, etc., closes with his car moving 10 mph on the freeway so he can protect his newborn). Great characters. Tons of set-ups/payoffs. When you're watching it, it feels like they're improvising 'cause it's just feels so natural. But when you read it, you realize much of it had to have been written 'cause it pays off later or advances the plot. The script's available at simplyscripts. It's 139 pages, but it moves super fast.

Count me in for "The Social Network." Just re-watched it this weekend, and for the first time ever (inspired by this site!) I read the script alongside watching the movie. Couple of headlines -- 1) the movie is extremely faithful to the script, almost like a blueprint. (Example; every slug of beer that Sorkin has Mark chug down slides right down Eisenberg's throat, at the exact same point that the script dictates). 2) Sorkin's style is sparse regarding "business," so when he puts action on the page, it's there for a reason. That's not to say he's all about the dialogue, but when you compare him to someone like Shane Black, Sorkin's narrative voice is actually a lot less colourful than his characters. My first impressions anyway.

Children of Men http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/children_of_men-script.pdf This version of the script is a little different to the final filmed version but it's worth a read anyway.

TYRANNOSAUR http://www.baftastudiocanal.co.uk/downloads/Tyro_Script Brutal, touching, great story, well told. If you haven't seen it, put it on your list. It would make a good change from the usual explosions, car chases, CGI etc and stands up on its own merit of strong storyline (without the need for the above) and even stronger charcters.

AS GOOD AS IT GETS CITY ISLAND BLOOD DIAMOND I always wondered, why movie like CITY ISLAND is not mentioned any where in GITS before(i might've missed that post), coz its such an awesome script just like "Little Miss Sunshine" (Similar but different). I even took a printout of the whole script(my only screenplay hard copy)to study the script. Guys dont miss City Island, if you love a family drama. But I'd also appreciate if anyone sheds a light on the mistakes/drawbacks of CITY ISLAND. (as I am pretty sure there'll be some but I couldnt find).

I'd never heard of City Island, but I just put it in my Netflix queue. Fuck yeah, Emily Mortimer! Thanks for the tip. And also, As Good As It Gets would be fun to analyze.
