"Abducted: “Die Hard” in an alien spaceship." That is brilliant. Why did I not think of that? Sigh...

Will you be able to do some nice graphs for us? Thanks for taking the time to do all this!

Scott thanks so much for this series. You put out so much useful information, but I found this series particularly informative. It's one thing to see the sales as they come individually on Deadline or Variety, but to see them all on a list really makes you examine trends and themes that run and you can see the impact of certain hits on the sales market. It's really interesting. One note about sales. I have heard from some insiders that of late, some of these "sales" are just fronts to get more interest in projects and get read by actors and help them get produced. Have you heard about this practice?

There have always been a few stray titles that appear as sales when in fact they are no-dollar deals and used, as you state, to generate buzz about a project. Short of being in every business affairs office in Hollywood to review deals, there is no way to confirm every single deal reported by the trades or other sources. In the past, a few people I trust have given me inside information about such a deal and I have not recorded those in my list. But again, impossible to verify everything and at some point have to trust what is reported. The larger point: Spec script sales ARE sexy and DO generate buzz as any of you will discover when you see one.
