Except, of course, that Judge Dredd has been around as a comic book for over 35 years and inspired one crappy movie (actually they got the visuals right in that one) starring Silvester Stallone. As for making the villain a woman... if she's not a stereotype and is played intelligently, then it's about effin' time, imho. have to say, even though it's mostly out of a morbid curiosity, I'm looking forward to seeing this.

Yeah, that's exactly my point. 35 years worth of material and they go with a scenario that's basically identical to a movie that came out in 2011. Which means The Raid was at least in production if not wrapped by the time Dredd started. Sure, Dredders can claim they didn't know about it, and I'll even bet a few people might believe that. As far as a female villain, I think that's awesome - time for some equal opportunity. And I'd happily watch Lena Headey hawking Preperation-H in a German infomercial. And it is coming out on my birthday (just 3 months b4 the Mayans are dancing on our graves). So I'll grab Stephen King, Bill Murray and Luke Wilson (boys night out) to go see it. I agree, I look forward to seeing it, too!

The point I was making, I guess, is that aside from Lena Headey herself, there's *nothing* in the Dredd trailer that isn't in the comic book in one shape or another, and Alex Garland, who wrote this is a Brit, very likely making him intimately familiar with Judge Dredd canon. For instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Block_Mania BTW, they had almost the exact same scenes in the Stallone version, which was made in '95.

Either way I'm excited to see if the movie can hold up. I've always loved the Judge Dredd Universe. If it's like The Raid: Redemption, we're in for a treat.
