So, the makers of a great movie for kids thought a prequel set in college was a wise step? At first I thought this must be a joke. Could it be? Pixar made millions off of grade-school kids & their parents enjoying the original together, over and again. What would provoke them to think I -- and millions of other parents -- would take children to see a movie about college life? Nobody's perfect, not even Pixar, but on the face of it this seems a bizarre turn.

I'm probably too late, but this makes me want to ask Scott how much merchandizing matters. I mean, he mentioned foreign sales--China, Russia, India, France?--as a sometimes-determinative factor. But what about plush figures and happy meals?
