Heck, throw in the Apocalypse! Humans/mammals are nearly extinct because of a nuclear/viral Apocalypse turning humans/mammals into Zombies, bloodless and short life-span. This leaves the Vampires only one choice--Human Farms. For their own survival, Vampires must now breed, protect and cull Humans. Let's just hope no Vampires become VETH... Vampires for the Ethical Treatment of Humans.

nice. Vambie makes me think of a sweet little Disney horror film. or how 'bout an unrequited Shakespearean Zombie/Vampire rom-com?

I think the obvious choice of Vampires v. Zombies is without a doubt not going to work because it is just leaving a lot of openings for the writing to fail by falling back on the simple "us vs. them". I liked the idea of these people finding signs that the corpses weren't decomposing in the way they expected. So, here's my idea: Set in New England in the early 1900s. Godlessness is becoming more of a concern for the citizens of a small town as the town is cannibalized into an industrial empire. Our young hero, Warren, is part of the generation that grows up alongside the new machine revolution. In his vastly expanding environment, he actually manages to find love in the form of the endearing and hard laboring woman, Audrey. They get engaged and are soon to be married but after one assembly line catastrophe, Warren loses Audrey to an early grave. Distraught, Warren turns to God but when his prayers are given the cold shoulder, he sets out to undo what God has done to him. He embarks on a mission to find a way to bring Audrey back. What he manages to find, surprisingly easy I might add, is a way to bring her literally back to life. What makes this discovery hard is how it must be achieved: he must harvest the ichor, or blood, of vampires and proceed to inject the blood into his dead love's corpse. He accepts the endeavor and tracks down vampire after vampire, getting better at killing and harvesting their blood every time. His bloodlust is never quenched though because each injection of ichor leaves only a small moment of liveliness in her, only to be snuffed out again into death. He travels across the west in search of a vampire's blood that would have enough power to bring her back from her death for good and he must ultimately sacrifice his humanity to achieve his desired results.

Well, Trent, you took a 'dumb' idea and turned it into a good one. I don't know if we have reached the saturation point on all things vampires or not, but I could see something like this working.
