Interesting that Rod Serling claims ideas are easy and the work is hard. Perhaps that was the case long ago. No insider can say that with a straight face anymore. It was Jeffery Katzenberg who famously stated "The idea is KING" So remember that writers - the IDEA is the king. Don't give your kingdoms away to those who know how to plow the fields of your imagination while it's fertile. Protect your kingdom by not buying the lie that "ideas are easy" and instead learn to harvest them on your own. Very few people actually have good ideas. Which is exactly why they want yours.

Michael, there is no fixed number on this, so I'm pulling it pretty much out of the air, but when generating story concepts for a spec script, I think it's wise for a writer to think that 50% of the value of their story is the story concept itself. That is how much it means to a Hollywood buyer in terms of development, marketing and distribution. I know it sounds crazy, but it's not. So your point is well-taken: Ideas are king [and queen]!
