Dave, a parapsychologist and his wife, Sarah, move into a peaceful, but near deserted city neighborhood, rumored to be the dumping ground for victims of the mob. Empty save for a few crazy people because the homes are said to be haunted. But the two actually share a gift: the ability to see and talk to spirits, and living here is part of their research. Soon they are visited by a ghost who asks them to dig up the bodies of him and his family to make sure they get a real funeral, that will allow them to pass into the afterlife... But when the couple ask the neighborhood priest to perform funeral rites, they don't realize that he's also an informant for the mob, and panic sets in when he recognizes the identity of the ghost's body: a rival gangland boss presumed missing at sea. Fearing a devastating and costly gang war, the mob boss sends an enforcer to clean up the mess, but he's no match for a bunch of very pissed off ghosts who force him to witness unspeakable horrors that even a psychotic killer would fear. Desperate, the mob boss decides to escalate his actions, but this draws attention from the very rivals from whom he needs to keep his secret, and the gangs converge to this neighborhood for an all out battle for control of the city that will catch everyone there in the crossfire.

Scott, you really increased the degree of difficulty with this one, but if it were easy... At the end of the Indian Wars, a company of US Cavalrymen is massacred while defending a town from an Indian tribe. Almost defeated, the tribe's chief, honored by their fierce fighting spirit, decides to spare the town and calls upon his shaman to cast a spell that will resurrect the horsemen to defend against evil in the town's time of need. One hundred and forty years later, the town is part of a reservation, and the sacred burial ground a beautiful but strange and sparsely populated neighborhood. When a property speculator moves in and tries to seize the land for a casino development that will force the entire population out of their homes, weird things start to happen. But when he threatens the lives of the townsfolk, the US Cavalry rises to once more defend this place.

When construction workers on Long Island unexpectedly dig up a mass grave of Holocaust victims, a divorced NYC psychologist is brought in to inform and help counsel their families. As she guides the surviving sons and daughters through grief, relived lost memories and survivors guilt, she uncovers stories about the victims' lives, piecing why the atrocity happened on US soil, and becomes driven to track down the 90 year old Nazi war criminal responsible and bring him to justice. However, compelled to see the law upheld, she must also face off against her ex-husband, the state Attorney General and a man as determined and stubborn as she, who's been ordered to cover up this situation and erase a shameful moment from the history books.

Perhaps a "Passport to Pimlico" style comedy whereby a community of people take over an abandoned town and make it their own, eventually declaring independence from the country. Could explore the upside of doing this in the first instance (autonomy) to the later problems with no written constitution and the eventual break down of civilised behaviour in the face of a lawless town.

Mark, what about making it a real “ghost” town, like a purgatory for those not ready to go to their final destination (i.e. “Passport To Pimlico” meets “A Matter Of Life And Death”)? A young but successful man OD's at a party. When he wakes he's in a hotel room he doesn't recognize and there's an envelope on his bedside table, with his name on it, but that cannot be opened. Deciding to get out and take a walk, he discovers a pretty little village, and passing a park he sees a old man holding his wife, who's crying. But those are tears of mixed joy, grief and love. Confused, he continues to explore this weird village and as he crosses over the two platforms belonging to the town's small train station, he finally realizes that this place is in fact purgatory and that he's allowed one last contact with the mortal world before being sent off to the afterlife. Now, he realizes that in fact he's being judged on the worth of his life, and that to reach closure he must examine his past in order to choose the person with whom he wants to share his final message. Only then can he open the envelope that contains the ticket to his final destination: Heaven or Hell
