I had met Alan Zweibel once with a handful of other alumni and he noted the same thing: always be working on something. There will be times when you get stuck on some project in particular, where you just don't feel motivated for some reason or burned out at the moment and that it's handy to have little "side diversions", whether they were dialogues, essays, or short musings. In his particular case, some of those diversions lead to full blown books like Bunny Bunny: Gidla Radner - A Sort of Love Story and Clothing Optional. And man, was It's Garry Shandling's Show ever way ahead of its time.

I try to juggle a lot of projects at the same time. But a lot of the time I find that I'm juggling too much and I'm writing a first draft instead of really polishing the last thing I've written. Any advice for keeping focus on the next rewrite of project number one when project number three is starting to be a lot more interesting as you approach the first draft? I think it's better to be generating new material, but at the same time the material needs to be fully completed, not just a mid-level draft. Thoughts?

I'm happy to say I'm starting that now. Rewriting my western. First draft on serial killer contained thriller and prep on thriller. :)
