an eternal grump has fallen down in the bathtub and hit his head, and because he lives by himself he lies there drifting in and out of consciousness for a while and pops in and out of a dream state filled with children's laughter, carnival sounds, and a little girl's face smiling and laughing at a balloon she's holding. he finally wakes with an awkward smile on his face and goes about his day as if nothing had happened... only, in real time, it's been a few days. he slowly finds himself laughing at small nuances of life and petting the neighborhood tom who he used to berate and throw things at... he's basically seeing the joy in life and begins to smile which causes his face to ache from using the new muscles and his newfound smile being so odd physically, appears creepy to the outside world. this makes his neighbors highly suspicious and hijinx ensue. or perhaps it's not a comedy, but a drama with a sappy message of finding the good things in life rather than always being grumpy.

or, in keeping in line with the attack element... he's beaten by a homeless man who just wanted some money for coffee and he brushes him off. oh, and to tie in the carnival sounds and girl with a balloon, he ends up recounting to someone who asks him why he was ever grumpy in the first place... it's his last happy memory of his daughter who was killed in an accident after spending the day with him at the carnival. only now he's happy to remember her.

When a construction worker's skull is pierced by a freak accident, he awakens from his coma with various paranormal abilities, including the ability to see into the future. Initially happy with his new found abilities, he begins to see terrifying dreams which become more intense over time, consuming him until he realizes that these are in fact visions of hell, and that his accident has made him a human conduit to the netherworld. With a total eclipse of the moon that will force open a gateway to hell approaching, he must seek out a near mythical old sorcerer, the only human who can help him stop the hordes of hell from bursting into the real world and prevent the Devil himself from taking rule.

Scott, apologies in advance, but I really couldn't resist this one: An underachieving cop becomes the only human member of a K-9 unit, when a freak accident increases his sense of smell ten thousand fold.

Struck by lightning, a young street-wise waitress discovers that her IQ has risen so far, she's invited to join the 190 Club, formed by a multi-billionaire, William Shockley like character so that hyper-intelligent people can breed super-genius level offspring. Happy in this new world, joyful in discovering the limits of her new brain power and with riches and privileges she never imagined, she soon discovers a terrifying secret: a super-genius serial killer is killing off the others, starting with the top of the list. And she's at #5. Now she must team up with other members to try and stop the murderer and undercover the reason behind the killing spree.

A car accident leaves a young student with an advanced understanding of geometric patterns, and the attention of the CIA, when she starts decoding messages in crop circles

When I originally read the story I was thinking a teen comedy where a male student who's really dumb (think Joey in whatever that sitcom TV show was) is after the hot smart girl and after he gets beat up he becomes smart and gets her attention (along with the science teacher who wants to experiment on him).

This reminds me in tone and substance of a spec script that J.J. Abrams wrote called Regarding Henry, produced with Harrison Ford as the lead. Here is that logline: "Henry is a lawyer who survives a shooting only to find he cannot remember anything. If that weren't enough, Henry also has to recover his speech and mobility, in a life he no longer fits..." Starts out as driven A-type guy. Finds the 'meaning' of life after the shooting and during recuperation. Now that I think about it, we could probably include that as a story type: Accident Aftermath. There was something out last year where a couple was engaged, then there was a car crash, she woke up and didn't remember him at all, and so he had to try to woo her again [I didn't see it, just remembering the trailer]. Those Big Crises Moments such as accidents or getting a life-threatening disease are often a good basis for a story because each one of us knows deep down in a quiet dark place in our psyche that at any given moment, a 'comet' could hit. It's the big What If...

Ah, so you took it the dark fantasy, even horror route. Interesting. Maybe then the accident wasn't... an accident. [Cut maniacal laughter]

Love it. Just like Spinal Tap, we could call it K-10. One louder! Or in this case one 'sniffier'.

Revenge is always good. Tarantino has made a living off that dynamic. One thing we haven't hit on is what if the effects of the accident aren't permanent? What if their power begins to fade? Remember that movie Awakenings? A good way to drive into the central question of self identity and Who Am I.

This one zeroes in on the FOOW dynamic [Fish Out Of Water], how the accident transforms a regular person into a 'super' person.

Crop circles! Love it. A chance to do what Signs started to do, then didn't.

I can see something like that. It's one way of dealing with stereotypes and defying conventional wisdom with - again - a central question for the Protagonist: Who am I? The guy I was or the guy I am? And who will I become?

The Vow with Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. I'm not one for love stories, but this one didn't totally suck.

a lonely man on a lonely road in the middle of the night who keeps dozing off and suddenly crosses the meridian and into the lone traveling bus... full of GEO prisoners. the man is ejected, but not dead and eventually comes to with prison guards standing over him to see if he's ok. he has amnesia. one of their prisoner's dead from the impact, means less money. they quickly coax the man into getting out of his bloody clothes and back into some prison stripes, put their dead prisoner near his car. because this new "inmate" has no recollection of who he is or where he's from, he can't contest the guards' orders no matter how wrong it feels. FF to him having flashes of his old life while doing arbitrary things: brushing his teeth, eating mashed potatoes, tossing a ball in the prison yard... he begins to think he's schizophrenic, but can't keep from feeling he's not supposed to be there. everyone brushes him off even though his memories are getting stronger and more frequent. the guards try to shut him up, but the prison shrink is beginning to wonder. meanwhile, back at the crash scene investigators are combing through the pieces trying to figure out what happened and why this DOA was with a car that wasn't his... and where's the real owner of the car? missing persons case and John Doe case. request public's help in ID'ing both the car and the John Doe. pictures and info start to trickle to small towns on separate coasts who recognize both and contact authorities, BUT... this prisoner transport is denying any knowledge and claim the guy must've escaped and killed the guy and stolen his car, etc. will the innocent driver ever fully regain his memory and get out and reclaim his old life? dun dun DUUNNNN

the bourne prisoner. noooooo... STAHP!

My first reaction is to see it as a thriller, where his life is turned upside down by the international spy agencies that want to recruit him (and will stop at nothing to see that the others don't get him). That could easily turn into a comedy as well... Okay, now I'm going to read what everyone else has come up with.

If it begins to fade, then you've got Flowers for Algernon.

Or if their abilities get out of hand... A group of test subjects are treated with a serum that grants them extraordinary mental and physical abilities. But for one of them, those powers continue to increase to the point where he can hear every voice and thought in the surrounding area, a condition that drives him insane and forces him to use his telekinetic abilities to kill every normal in a twenty mile radius just so he can get some piece of mind. As his powers strengthen and become more sensitive, he becomes less discriminate about who he kills and now the remaining members of the group must team up to stop him, before he becomes too powerful to oppose and humanity's very existence is threatened.
