Larry, there is no good reason for that negative 'conventional wisdom' re voice-over narration. The only thing I can think that sustains it the bad use of it in scripts by screenwriters. But as I have noted time and again, some of the greatest and most memorable movies of all time feature voice-over narration including the #1 film on IMDB's Top 250: The Shawshank Redemption.
