There's a great anecdote which I heard years ago. The screenwriter Callie Khourie, who had not sold a script before, has a meeting set up with Ridley Scott. Big break. So she's terribly nervous as would be expected. She walks into his office, he looks up at her and says straight off, "First thing, the ending stays." And when Khouri heard that, she was so relieved because she knew that he *got* the script. Not going to change it to some happy Hollywood thing. I don't know if that story is true or not, but I do seem to remember reading it somewhere...
