This script and movie are both so, so great. I'm in. Haven't read the script in a couple years, and it's been just as long since I've seen the movie. Can't wait for the discussion. Any chance we could do a day devoted to "Script to Screen" discussions? This thing is a masterclass in movie making via the art of screenwriting.

Scott, glad you're going to participate. On Monday, where we do General Discussion, that's oftentimes where those types analysis [script to screen] come up. We can just say that's the main point of focus that day, happy to do that. I'm also accumulating interviews, reviews and analysis from online sources -- gotten several already. If you know of any good ones, please either forward them to me or post during that week.

Hi Scott I have the script all ready to go, thank-you. I have a newbie question that might be answered already on the site if someone could point it out to me. Is there a process you recommend to "read and break down the script". Sure I'll read it but most likely get lost in the story. Once I read it through once is there a process you recommend to break it down via second and further readings? Cheers Inger (new student)

Inger, glad to have you here at GITS! We have done several readings & analyses in this series. You can go here to see some of them. From time to time, I have posted some of my analytical frameworks specifically re Structure and Characters. As I recall, I did that with "Gladiator" so you can click on those links and check that out. I guess just generally, while you can read the script just to enjoy it, perhaps either re-read it or while reading make margin notes looking at it from a writer's perspective. "Why did they do that?" That's always a good question to pose... for a scene, a character, line of dialogue. "Why did the writer write that?" I look forward to your participation in the "Michael Clayton" discussion. Should be a great one. Oh, also recommend watching the movie, too. Great to compare how the script matches up to the final version of the story.
