A quick observation about this scene. In the script, Red asks the question "Oh, they let you tote that record player down there, huh? I could’a swore they confiscated that stuff." In the film, it's Floyd that asks. Floyd's original line "Was it worth two weeks in the hole?" was given to Snooze instead. Heywood's line "Shit. No such thing as easy time in the hole. A week seems like a year." was split up between Skeet and Ernie. Also, instead of Andy asking "Haven’t you ever felt that way about music, Red?" he asks the whole group instead of just one person. Darabont spreads out the lines among the group and engages all the characters in the conversation. It creates variety and makes the scene flow better. It also makes the conversation feel more natural as everyone is excited to see Andy back and wants to talk to him. The first question is of course so silly that if Red had asked it, he would have come off as kinda stupid. Now Floyd has to take the hit on that and Andy's pause after the question makes it really funny. A bit of humor in the middle of a poignant moment. A good scene in the script made better in the film by making small changes.
