“A good screenplay tells us the truth about its hero; but a bad screenplay tells us the truth about its author.” There is a a fine line between truthful character writing and simply being truthful when dealing with an actual human being. The truth is not dramatic. The conflict is found in the lies created to force the conflict along partisan lines. I do not think any political movie can be truthful like the writer describes. It's physically impossible for anyone writing a political piece to not make half the nation into dolts or demonize one side of the political spectrum because it's the main source of conflict and therefore drama. You must admit - a group of admittedly right wing filmmakers could produce the same movie with a totally different slant.
