This is my most anticipated film of the year. However, do you think this trailer would work without our knowledge of Ridley Scott and his previous work? Could it stand on its own? I remember seeing a preview for Serenity. I had yet to see Firefly, but I knew Joss Whedon was a great writer. The preview got me all excited to go buy the Firefly DVDs. While my friend next to me said, "I wish they would tell us what the movie is about." I'll never forget that. My friend was intelligent, but not into writing or movies like I was. It was the moment I realized: 1) How important it is to have a logline. and 2) How important it is to convey said logline when promoting your material. So, coming back around, what's the logline for this trailer? "Cool scary shit happens on a spaceship." Hmm...

Sure looks like a prequel to Alien. There's even a quick shot of the space jockey.

Two things to keep in mind. This is just a Teaser Trailer. It does exactly what it's supposed to do (tease us and give us a taste of what's to come) and I think it does it really well. Although I thought we were done with the Inception style BRRRRRRRAAAAAWWWWRWRRRMRMRMMRMRMMMMM!!! music. That's getting old. The next trailer we'll see will probably be a full two and a half minutes and will tell us more of the story. If the next one won't, then the following will most likely be a Story Trailer. Secondly, the international trailers usually feature less story/dialogue and more images/spectacle. Much like the US trailers for foreign language films.
