I so adore this movie. i could've done without taking classes that didn't compare -- this was my first true lesson in subtext and should be a must see among all aspiring screenwriters.

Mona, a lot of the movies in the 30s and 40s had tons of subtext because of the various production codes. Made harder work of it for writers, but in some ways better movies at least as far as dialogue is concerned, always having to talk around touchy subjects such as sex.
