One of the aspiring scribes in Fox's writers program is Iris Yamashita. She was nominated for an Oscar for "Letters from Iwo Jima". This industry is tough.

Dw, is that right?!?! The same writer? That is rather shocking!

Yup. At first i was like she must be one of the mentors, but then i double checked. Upon researching I found out this program is a little different that others in that all the writers were submitted by their reps, and I think pretty much all of them have been produced. Still, the fact that an Oscar nominee who is clearly very talented is going through a writers program illuminates just how difficult this industry can be (then again, her one credit is a feature, so maybe she just wants a crash course in TV. There's certainly no shame in acquiring more education)

Nice bit of magic against Brazil, thanks for that. In the States, at least on the men's side of things, we're well behind Europe on the footy front. Give us about 25 years to keep advancing the game here. I love our humble pro league MLS. It appeals to every bit of underdog DNA in my soul. Such a wonderful sport. So happy I discovered it in 1990.

apropos... John Barnes was playing for Watford at the time (my home team... I grew up about 1/2 mile from what is now Leavesden Studios). He was discovered, at the age of 17, playing football in the park (a non-league game) by a retired scout walking his dog. Two years later, he was playing for England (he was 19 when he scored that goal).
