Hi Scott, I am writing my first major project - the story is inspired by true events - my subject died in 2002 in Australia - I had read as much as I could - old news articles - books etc. Last year I decided I needed to find the real story and so I self funded a research trip to Australia - it was hard getting the funds together - I worked night shifts at the hospital forever - but I had set my mind on the trip - I just knew it would be worth the effort - and it was - I am now ready to write my first draft - a bit scary - but I will work at writing the best script ever. Thanks Liz (Lancashire UK)

I am writing a screenplay on real events in iraq and Afghanistan during war with America. What should i do for my research on that culture. Secondly i am showing kandahar massacre, torture in bagram(Afghanistan) and alghraib(Iraq).. All these 3 events took place in different timeline and different places. So to keep it easy for me and the future viewer i want to keep it in one fictional city in Afghanistan and also want to fictionalize the timeline will it be correct. PI am also using 3 stories which will combine as we move towards climax. It will be non linear also any kind of tip for that and answer.. Reply please

I guess I get stuck on what to research and when. For instance if I was doing a story about forced removal of people from their homes, and their eventual uprising to gain equal standing, however the story is set in the year 2255, and the oppressors were aliens, then what do I research. Do I look at something that is comparable E.G. Real life civil movements, dictatorships etc. Also where do I start if I have this crazy future setting, do I research aliens, or planets, or the above mentioned dictatorships? How do I I make sure I am asking the relevant questions to answer through research?
