Totally agree with "what if" being the most critical thing you can ask yourself to inspire ideas and beyond that, exposing yourself to as much external input for ideas as possible - being your suggestion about reading random everything, it can lead to some weird and wonderful what if's.

Great analysis. That's my biggest problem with writing is coming up with a good concept. And not just a good concept but one that can sell butts in eats. You give me the concept I can hit the ground running with it.
