SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959) Jerry: Oh no you don't! Osgood, I'm gonna level with you. We can't get married at all. Osgood: Why not? Jerry: Well, in the first place, I'm not a natural blonde. Osgood: Doesn't matter. Jerry: I smoke! I smoke all the time! Osgood: I don't care. Jerry: Well, I have a terrible past. For three years now, I've been living with a saxophone player. Osgood: I forgive you. Jerry: [tragically] I can never have children! Osgood: We can adopt some. Jerry: But you don't understand, Osgood! Ohh... [Jerry finally gives up and pulls off his wig] Jerry: [normal voice] I'm a man! Osgood: [shrugs] Well, nobody's perfect! [Jerry looks on with disbelief as Osgood continues smiling with indifference. The Hangover - 2009 Stu breaks up with Melissa: Melissa: Why would you go to Las Vegas? Stu Price: 'Cause my best friend was getting married, and that's what guys do. Melissa: That's not what *you* do. Stu Price: Really? Well, then why did I do it? Huh? 'Cause I did it! Riddle me that! Why'd I do it? You know, sometimes I think all you want me to do is what you want me to do. Well, I'm sick of doing what you want me to do all the time. I think, in a healthy relationship, sometimes a guy should be able to do what he wants to do. Melissa: That is not how this works! Stu Price: Oh, good! Because whatever this is ain't workin' for me! Melissa: Oh, really? Since when? Stu Price: Since you fucked that waiter on your cruise last June! BOOM! Alan Garner: You told me it was a bartender. Stu Price: Oh! You're right. I stand corrected. It was a bartender. You fucked a bartender. Melissa: You're an idiot! Stu Price: You're a - You... [struggles] Stu Price: You're... such a bad person! Like, all the way through to your core!

Don't forget the ones I suggested initially: http://gointothestory.blcklst.com/2012/01/daily-dialogue-theme-for-next-week-9.html Maybe this counts as a break-up. A family break-up: Almost Famous (2000) "One day you'll be cool." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmVaCbxkd34

It probably says something about me that my first choice was this (although it's old enough to count as classic film? maybe?):
Tramp: Aw, come on, Pige. It wasn't my fault. Lady: Hmph! Tramp: I thought you were right behind me. Honest. When I heard they'd taken you to the pound, I... Lady: Oh, don't even mention that horrible place. [Sobbing] I was so embarrassed... and frightened... Tramp: Oh, now, now. Who could ever harm a little trick like you? Lady: [Angry] Trick? Trick! Oh, that reminds me. Who is Trixie? Tramp: Trixie? Lady: And Lulu and Fifi and Rosita Chiquita wh... whatever her name is? Tramp: Chiquita... chiquita, oh... Oh! Yes! Well, I-I-I can explain...

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: "Look at it out here, it's all falling apart. I'm erasing you and I'm happy! " (500) Days of Summer: "You weren't wrong, Tom. You were just wrong about me." Annie Hall: "A relationship, I think, is like a shark. You know? It has to constantly move forward or it dies. And I think what we got on our hands is a dead shark. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that."

Lady: As far as I'm concerned, you needn't worry about your old heel. Tramp: M-m-my heel? Lady: I don't need you to shelter and protect me. Tramp: Yes, b-but... Lady: If you grow careless, don't blame me. And I don't care if the Cossacks do pick you up! Goodbye! And take this with you! [Tosses back the bone Tramp gave her]

Did anyone suggest The Social Network? I figured that one was a given. Can't find the appropriate clip but here is the dialogue: MARK: I want to try to be straight forward with you and tell you that I think you might want to be a little more supportive. If I get in I’ll be taking you...to the events, and the gatherings...and you’ll be meeting a lot of people you wouldn’t normally get to meet. ERICA: (smiles) You would do that for me? MARK: We’re dating. ERICA: Okay, well I want to try and be straight forward with you and let you know that we’re not anymore. MARK: What do you mean? ERICA: We’re not dating anymore, I’m sorry. MARK: Is this a joke? ERICA: No, it’s not. MARK: You’re breaking up with me? ERICA: You’re going to introduce me to people I wouldn’t normally have the chance to meet? What the fff--Whatis that supposed to mean? MARK: Wait, settle down. ERICA: What is it supposed to mean? MARK: Erica, the reason we’re able to sit here and drink right now is cause you used to sleep with the door guy. ERICA: The door guy, his name is Bobby. I did not slept with the door guy, the door guy is a friend of mine. He’s a perfectly good class of people and what part of Long Island are you from--Wimbledon? MARK: Wait-- ERICA: I’m going back to my dorm. MARK: Wait, wait, is this real? ERICA: Yes. MARK: Okay, then wait. I apologize, okay? ERICA: I have to go study. MARK: Erica-- ERICA: Yeah. MARK: I’m sorry, I mean it. ERICA: I appreciate that but-- MARK: Come on. ERICA: --I have to study. MARK: You don’t have to study. You don’t have to study. Let’s just talk. ERICA: I can’t. MARK: Why? ERICA: Because it’s exhausting. Dating you is like dating a stairmaster.

I always remember the break up at the end of 9½ Weeks, partly for nostalgic reasons - it was a big hit while I was courting my now wife - but actually I liked the way that Mickey Rourke's character had all the power in that relationship until the inevitable breakup, at which point he was utterly powerless, partly because Kim Basinger's character had made up her mind to go, but also because he couldn't say or do the right things even when he had to, he was so broken as a person. Anyway, I can't find a script to buy or download and I can't find a link to this scene (the film being memorable for 'other' scenes) but the transcript is kind of like this: Elizabeth walks into the apartment, her eyes are puffy and red from crying. She starts to pack her stuff. John sits and watches. JOHN You leaving? You won't stay? You know, I have five brothers. I'm the youngest. We lived in a small town. It was just outside of Chicago. My father... My father was... He worked at a foundry. And my mother was a... She was a clerk at a... She was a check-out girl at a grocery store. So, you know, it's just... I've got a family. They don't work anymore. They're retired. I support them ELIZABETH It's too late. JOHN I want you to know something. There's been lots of other girls. There's been lots of women. But I never felt anything like this before. Even when I just... ...hold you in my arms, it's just the way you feel. Something I didn't count on. I never counted... ...on loving you so much. Elizabeth wipes her eyes, turns and faces him. ELIZABETH You knew it would be over when one of us said stop. JOHN But you wouldn't say it. ELIZABETH I almost waited too long. I'll send someone to get my stuff. She turns and leaves without looking back. JOHN Elizabeth. Elizabeth. Elizabeth keeps walking and he sits alone. JOHN I love you. Would you please come back... ...by the time I count to fifty? One. Anyway, that's my two-penn'th Cheers! Rob

I searched for a clip of the final death scene in War of the Roses (1989) but couldn't find one...the most twisted breakup movie I've seen - with a killer cast. Oliver Rose: I think you owe me a solid reason. I worked my ass off for you and the kids to have a nice life and you owe me a reason that makes sense. I want to hear it. Barbara Rose: Because. When I watch you eat. When I see you asleep. When I look at you lately, I just want to smash your face in.
