This also speaks to a need to take chances in my eyes. If you write a safe, inoffensive movie, the people who are brought in to see it for free will write nice enough comments. But who will pay to go see it? Who will go out of their way to talk about it? If your movie doesn't generate any ill will at all, maybe it's not strong enough to generate passion.
