This is the list of someone who wants to be entertained at the movies, not "educated", so I'm fine with 3 Musketeers on his list. That choice reflects Tarantino's video store clerk aesthetic. Consequently, and not to say that Hugo isn't a good movie, but I'm also glad he didn't put it on his top 11 list, unlike many others who worship with uncritical, blind adherence at the altar of Scorsese.

If he appreciates the script for Beginners that much, I'm surprised it didn't make his movie list. I thought it was a really well realized movie, including one of the finest movie performances by a dog in recent years.

Props for Planet of the Apes getting on there and Attack the Block. One million negative props for putting The Three Musketeers on there. If this is a list of someone who wants to be entertained at the movies, that thing doesn't belong anywhere near this list. I don't think that reflects his video store clerk aesthetic, I think it reflects a renewed cocaine addiction. That's not even so-bad-it's-good. It's just awful. Attack the Block was fantastically entertaining, so the fact that he's got both of those on there makes me confuse. Drive and Hanna on the "Nice Try" list makes me chuckle, too. Our Idiot Brother? Musketeers? Red State??! I dunno, QT. Maybe he's bored? He's entitled to his opinion, clearly, but his opinion sucks.

Coke? Quentin doesn't need any uppers. He's a pot guy. And an alcohol guy. But I don't think this list reflects anything he's doing so much as the fact that he's getting older. It's a confused sort of list, like a guy who peaked fairly young and is in the throes of a mid-life crisis. (But that's just the writer in me speculating.)

I saw The Three Musketeers with my 11 year-old son. Wow. Just... wow. But here's an even bigger shock to the system. The movie has done $132M at the box office. Granted only $20M of that in U.S. and Canada, a whopping 84.6% of the total from overseas. But still, that's a pretty decent gross. Who knows? With ancillary revs finalize, they may decide to do a sequel [movie's prod budget was a reported $75M]. But again... wow. Just... wow.

To me 3 Musketeers was just a moderately bad direct to video type movie, that you'd watch late at night, slightly buzzed, simply for the physically improbable set pieces. A higher budgeted and slightly updated version of the kind of movie they used to make all the time in the 80s. Honestly, what were you expecting from the director of the Resident Evil movies?

Props for putting The Skin I Live In, Attack The Block and Warrior. Hangover, Green Lantern, Fast Five?? What is wrong with him!!?? Although I loved Drive, it's perfectly understandable that some people hate it. It's one of those hate-it-or-love-it movies. But maybe he's feeling intimidated by Nic Refn.

Could be. Although IMO Tarantino has more classic movies to his credit ( RESERVOIR DOGS, PULP FICTION, JACKIE BROWN) than Refn (DRIVE), Refn is arguably already a better action director. And he's crazy if he thinks RED STATE is better than TAKE SHELTER or MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE. Or that MEEK'S CUT-OFF is one of the worst movies of the year.
