Your suggestions sound great. I'm planning to join in this time - like scheduling it in too ... I read plenty but don't spend enough time analysing ... be good to stretch that part of my thinking ... monthly is good ... when is the first one?

I like both suggestions, Scott. I feel I could participate if it were monthly. Last time I found myself barely able to keep up with reading comments, let alone reading the script and offering my own analysis. But I LOVE the concept.

My own experience was that whilst I read and considered almost all the scripts, I didn't do so in step with the published posts. And rightly or wrongly I didn't feel it was relevant to comment on posts once another one was under discussion, so my thoughts generally went unrecorded. Monthly makes sense, as it gives more lead-time for people to read. I would suggest encouraging people to watch the film after reading the script, something more possible with the gentler pace.

I like the once a month approach. One of my goals in 2012 will be to read more scripts but I just flat out don't have the time to read as many as I should. Yes, the goal is to read more than one a month but this would help me focus on breaking down scripts. And I agree with David... incorporating Reading & Analysis with actually watching the film could spark more participation. On a side note... I'm still a loyal reader... just trying to tame my tongue when need be!!! : ) Roll Tide!

Hey Scott, what if we read, analyze, and watch movies of scripts that are on like IMDB's top 250 movies, or AFI's 100 movies to watch? That way not only are we reading just any scripts, but reading scripts of movies that are some what well liked and rated highly by the general audience.

That's a solid idea, bappo24. The only hitch is that some folks were concerned about focusing so much on 'classic' movies, especially from a screenplay standpoint where style has changed so radically over the last half-century. But I definitely think we need to hit some of the older movies. And of course, there are ones from the last 25 years on those lists as well.

Once a month sounds like a much more manageable endeavor. I look forward to participating.

Well, I do love this series but I as I recall Bridesmaids was the second film we covered, and I skipped out on that one as I wasn't a huge fan of the films (although I do intend to read the script - I'm just putting it off). I've managed to read most of the scripts, which is good, but I haven't figure out a way of finding the time to write up my notes and get them posted here. I think in an ideal world it would be better to read/discussed one script a week. But we have to live in a practical world, and I can see that interest in this series varies due to the reasons you have already highlighted. So, I have to concede that once a month discussing a strong, well recognised script is the way forward.

Spreading the analysis for the one script over two weeks might help more people participate as well. It would give people more time to write up their thoughts on whatever aspect (structure, dialogue, etc) is currently being discussed, and hopefully foster conversation in the comments. This could also help people who randomly happen to be busier on the week of the script reading not miss the analysis and conversation for an entire month. Maybe there's reasons not to do that. Just a thought :)

Monthly sounds great for me. Looking forward to it. Would it be worth "surveying" us to find out what genres people are interested in writing, and concentrating our efforts around those? Though I think we should definitely stretch ourselves as well, dip into the occasional genre we wouldn't normally consider, it might help narrow the list we're picking from. Of course, if everyone out there turns out to be fanatical about rom-coms, I may regret suggesting this! :)

I'm new to GITS analysis, but I've been reading the commments for a few months and I'm looking forward to contributing. Just glad you're still doing the analysis, I was worried you were going to stop it all together! Anyway, one thing I don't do is analyse awful, sucky scripts and I'd imagine there's tonnes to be learnt wondering why a story didn't work as opposed to focusing only on the ones that capture our hearts and/or heads. What about looking at great movies every month and then analyse a shit movie along the same schedule spaced out by two weeks?

I concur with everyone else, love the concept, but was overwhelmed by amount of content. I know I benefit from this series, and want it to be a part of my 1,2,7,14. As ever, Scott, thank you. We don't deserve you. ;)

My problm with reading and analysing scripts, is I take a lot of time to finish. Also vry rarely I comment coz the comment alrdy have the same observations frm others. As how Scott mentioned before, if u read only one script a week we'll finish 52 scripts a year. So I think we make a list of 52 scripts to be finished for this year. (based on our commitment we can cover more too). Analyze them inside out...with our regular procedure (General comments, structure, character, themes, dialogue). I think we should do this bi-weekly but as Scott says lets try with one script a month. Its all about baby steps I say, like everything in the world adapts to the change gradually because sudden changes may give us appalling results, such as earthquakes and floods. Last year I missed quite a few of the scripts in the beginning but then caught up to it towards the end. The good thing came out of it was it became my things to do in the week. I try to find time between, Working, writing screenplay, pre-production for impending shoot and post work on our previous stuff. I think it comes down to what we makes a priority and thanks to the script reading and analysis it is now one of the things to do of a week for me. I also wants to suggests some screenplay for consideration. 1) Godfather 2) One Flew over the Cuckoos nest 3) Machinist 4) Citizen Kane Thanks for including Shawshank Redemption I wanted to read it as the part of series so bad! After the first three or four scripts I was too tight on a schedule to participate on the discussions, although I'd still read most of the comments. I think monthly would be great, and perhaps we could still try twice a month. Also agree on the type of scripts.
