69. After the last 'bigger' year (87), we saw two down years (I assume as those stores were plundered to make movies). We might see that effect again, especially as the increase in buys this year was so sharp. 70's still generous compared to the last two years, even if it's a steep fall from this year's number.

p.s. I'm going with hope. There are a lot of big franchises hitting next year, as well as some interesting indie and Sundance flicks. That's what happened this year, and it obviously helped. I'm hoping 2012 will be one for the books. I also hope my spec will be part of the number!

I wanted 78 as it's the year I was born but i'll take 77 since it's available and the year I was conceived! I'm hoping for 250 or so so we all have a better chance but that's a tad far fetched! Good Luck everyone!

I'm gowna go with 83. Whilst 2011 was a bumper year for spec sells, it seems to me that the studios are a cautious bunch. I don't think they'll slow up on the buying front immediately, but I imagine most studios have purchased their (for them) fair share of specs already. We really need those specs to do well (although I'm guessing most wont be made until 2013). If they do - BOOM! - the spec sale train will continue (maybe reaching 2011 heights again in 2013). Hope I'm wrong though and 2012 sees spec sales reach 150, but I've got a feeling it will, as said at the beginning of this post, be more around the 83 mark.

I'll go with '86. a) It was a pretty good year for me b) 89 (a better year for me) is already taken c) What goes up... Hoping I'm supremely wrong though and we get a slew of quality spec sales. Economy, eek, it ain't getting better for a while, and "better" will be incremental. What is in flux, how and where we're getting our entertainment. Jane Espenson creating a well received web TV series. Louis CK hitting $1mil in sales on his own. Black Dynamite, 'nuff said, go watch it, and the other fresh independent work out in recent years. Skyrim, $850mil in sales as of Dec 18 (roughly month after release, Christmas still to come), surpassing domestic box office of Avatar. Game offers hundreds of hours of entertainment. Hundreds. An all-ages comic (the kind that comic book companies say won't sell) from a 16 year old is the #1 kindle book in three categories on Amazon. Just a few examples of work traveling less traditional paths to reach the market, and doing so successfully. Work we find fresh and entertaining. Work we're finding. With a huge dollop of hope, and a sprinkling of panic as Hollywood struggles to retain our gaze, with extra coin in its pocket thanks to Netflix streaming costs, I'm going with 132.

Put me down for 133. 2012 is the end of the world right? Execs will be scrambling to get a ton of specs before the apocalypse.
