What's more amazing is the transition of Dr. Strangelove from script to screen. In the script I read he is almost nonexistent, merely mentioned as the purported creator of the US doomsday machine. The zany ending where he stands as mentor and displays on the outside what all these satirical characters are on the inside is an amazing development off the script.
