This has never hit closer to home. Following the birth of my son (first child) I had the idea for a movie along the lines of the books "What to Expect" but more along the lines of how it affects the father-to-be. After shelving the idea (due to constraints at school) I ended up kicking myself when low and behold "What to Expect When You're Expecting" sells.

Back in the early 90's I took myself to the movies to celebrate the completion of a first draft of a script about two housewives who struck out on the road after being screwed over by their husbands one too many times. They commit a series of crimes to fund their journey and become modern day folk heroes. Imagine how disturbed I was when the lights came down and the "Thelma and Louise" trailer came up. The bright side of this story is that Callie Khouri's script was 1000 times more potent than mine, which delved into slapstick and lowbrow humor more often than not. Still... as this post indicates... it can happen. Just gotta' make sure that well that you draw from is deep and plentiful.
