I had literally just started trying to write scripts "professionally" when this movie came out. I was one year out of college and had failed miserably in my chosen career of funeral director/mortician (don't ask...) and was pretty sure that only screenwriting and film would be my salvation. And then THIS came out. And it made me wonder if perhaps I'd traded in my black gravediggers suit a tad prematurely. Such a terrific film. So many layers you can enjoy it on. Probably the closest I've ever seen to a full-fledged "novel" on screen. Even the character names speak volumes. This film sparked months of discussion and debate within my little circle of film-dork friends. "I will show you the life of the mind!!!" Indeed...
