What amazes me is that at 73 years old, Alvin, who was known for light comedies and intense dramatic type movies (Ordinary People, Julia, Bobby Deerfield, What about Bob), could have the versatility at that age to turn around and script tent-pole action movies targeted at the sub-25 year old male demographic. It's no coincidence, imho, that the Spiderman movies did so well at the box-office. There are very few writers, even young, top of their class USC/NYU graduates, with that level of screenwriting chops, and as someone who's entering the 2nd half of his life, and trying to break into a new career, I find it inspirational.
