One of my favorite romantic comedy scripts ever: Four Weddings and a Funeral (Richard Curtis) Charles: Ladies and gentlemen, l'm sorry to drag you from your desserts. There are just one or two little things I feel I should say, as best man. This is only the second time l've been a best man. I hope I did OK that time. The couple in question are at least still talking to me. Unfortunately, they're not actually talking to each other. The divorce came through a couple of months ago. But l'm assured it had absolutely nothing to do with me. Paula knew Piers had slept with her sister before I mentioned it in the speech. The fact that he'd slept with her mother came as a surprise, but I think was incidental to the nightmare of recrimination and violence that became their two-day marriage. Anyway, enough of that. My job today is to talk about Angus. There are no skeletons in his cupboard. Or so I thought. I'll come on to that in a minute. I would just like to say this. I am, as ever, in bewildered awe of anyone who makes this kind of commitment that Angus and Laura have made today. I know I couldn't do it and I think it's wonderful they can. So, back to Angus and those sheep. http://youtu.be/S6GPicVYCvs

The Deer Hunter. "Na zdorovie!" "Fuck it" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyqr-hGGpQg&feature=related In the script, there was no toast and there was a lot less tension on both sides of the altercation: INT. V.F.W. POST - TRESTLE TABLES - NIGHT NICK, SAL and MERLE are standing together, looking at the SERGEANT. MERLE Nick, he just came back. NICK From Nam? MERLE Fucking A. See that ribbon in the left. That's Quan Son. That fucking guy was at Quan Son! MERLE gestures with his head. NICK and SAL cross with him to the SERGEANT. MERLE (CONT'D) We, ah... We're going too. The SERGEANT looks at them and delivers a big, blank smile. SERGEANT Pow! MERLE What? The SERGEANT keeps smiling. MERLE (CONT'D) (to Nick) What'd he say? NICK Pow. MERLE Pow? NICK Pow. MERLE Oh. MERLE nods. MERLE (CONT'D) (clears his throat) Uh... well, maybe you could tell us how it is over there? SERGEANT Pow! MERLE Pow? SERGEANT Pow! MERLE looks at NICK. NICK looks at SAL. They all begin scratching their heads, trying not to laugh. MERLE Well, thanks a lot. They turn away and then, when they are out of earshot, they all break up, howling. SAL Who the hell is he? MERLE Who the hell knows! NICK Is he from here? MERLE Hell no! NICK Well, where's he from? MERLE AND SAL (in unison) Who the hell knows! MERLE (soberly) Maybe he's lost. SAL AND NICK Lost??? MERLE (throws up his hands) Well, I don't know!

In honor of Thanksgiving, how about family arguments/discussions around the dinner table? Two examples below: --Little Miss Sunshine Grandpa: Again with the fucking chicken. Richard: Dad. Grandpa: It's always with the goddamn fucking chicken. --Breaking Away Dad: What is this? Mom: It's sauteed zucchini. Dad: It's I-tey food. I don't want no I-tey food. Mom: It's not. I got it at the A&P. It's like... squash. Dad: I know I-tey food when I hear it! It's all them "eenie" foods... zucchini... and linguine... and fettuccine. I want some American food, dammit! I want French fries! Mom: [to the cat, who has jumped up onto the table] Oh, get off the table, Fellini! Dad: Hey, that's *my* cat! His name's not Fellini, it's Jake! I won't have any "eenie" in this house! [to the cat] Dad: Your name's Jake, you hear?

The Wedding Singer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt9IJX0qI6o David "Dave" Veltri: [drunk] My brother Harold asked me to be the Best Man at his wedding. I was like [chuckles] of course, man. 'Cause you've always been there for me, when I was in rehab, and the time I couldn't find my car. It's Harold ya know, he's always been the dependable one. I've always been the screwed up one, right dad? [chuckles] Why can't you be more like your brother? Harold would never beat up his landlord! [laughing] Groomsman: [whispering to other Groomsman] He's drunk as shit. Dave: [laughs then coughs a little] But, uh newsflash pop, Harold ain't so perfect. [to Harold] Remember that time in Puerto Rico we picked up those two uh...I guess they were prostitutes, but I don't remember payin'. Robbie: [comes up on stage and grabs mike from Dave]Okay] How 'bout that! Yeah, terrific. Dave: I'm a person too Pop, goddammit! I'm a person too! Mr.Veltri: You're a moron! Robbie: The Best Man, everybody. Dave: The best man, the better man! [bangs cymbal] Aooooooow! Robbie: Uh, hey. We've all done crazy things in our life, so... [Robbie is interrupted when Dave picks up Robbie's guitar and starts strumming it.] He's playing the guitar now, isn't that great? You're doin' good. Dave: Yeah, sounds good? That's cause I'm the best guitar player in the wooorld! Yeaah! Self taught, no lessons. Thank you very much, Pop! [drunkenly stumbles offstage] They'll be divorced in a year! [crowd gasps]

For a movie that's such a cult classic, I couldn't find a single English language clip of this scene (found one in Italian, though). Anyway, this is Kevin Costner's classic toast from Fandango: Gardner: Here's to us, by God! To us, and that... and privileges of youth. Here's to us and what we were. Philip: And what we'll be. Gardner: And what we'll be.
