Presumably this is good news for those of us currently based outside the US - we can bring our personal experience of non-American locations to our scripts. All we have to worry about is adding the 'American element' - which I guess primarily means American characters....

And apparently the foreign markets have more production money too. That's where Woody Allen has been getting his budgets. Hence all the international locations.

Thinking in the school of "write what you know," I've lived all over the USA (well, the lower 48) so I have a slight edge with stories set in the US. But I tend to stay away from using other more international locations as I don't have any first-hand experience yet. Sure, research helps, but that feels false to me after a while. And so many details that someone who has actually been there can add to the story is missing.
